The lawless one

February 16, 2025

I'd like to share in my blog post today on a subject I'm calling "The lawless one."
Lawlessness is derived from the root word law which is authority. Lawlessness is disregard, disrespect and dishonor of authority.

So what is the law according to the Bible? The law is more than the 10 commandments. It is every word from God. It is every instruction from God pertaining to life and existence. It is God's ways, God's methods, God's designs, and God's plans for humanity and the world He created. God Himself is the law of existence.

In the books of Leviticus and Deuteronomy, God gives Moses detailed instructions on how the Israelites shall behave themselves in order to fulfill the law of God. These books detail on everything pertaining to sacrifices, worship, restitution, trade, work, personal responsibility, sexual behavior, even personal hygiene.

The Psalmist says of God's laws; The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring for ever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward. (Psalms 19:7-11)

The lawless one thefore is one who disregards, disrespects, dismisses and dishonours God's words, God's methods, God's design and instructions.

In the Bible it is clear that the lawless one is the devil. So why is the devil called the lawless one?

The answer is simple. It can be explained by the words of Jesus in John 10.

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." (John 10:10)

So what does the thief come to steal, kill and destroy? He comes to steal the law of God which is the truth from the hearts of men. When he successfully robs people of the truth, he then can unleash an onslaught of destruction, eventually leading to death. All crime is born of the enemy's lies.

The devil is very subtle. The Bible calls him cunning. He masquerades as an angel of light so as not to be detected as the source of lies. In the garden of Eden, the devil did not engage Eve in debate on what God said. He simply engaged her on what God did not directly say. He helped her to rationalize and justify her decision to break God's law and still feel like she did nothing wrong.

Many people today will justify certain practices saying Jesus did not directly address or condemn anyone who did this or that in the Bible. I have met some who claim to be pro choice say the Bible doesn't directly say not to abort. Others in defence of homosexuality will reason from the same angle saying Jesus did not address the topic with or against anyone directly. This reasoning then gives them the basis to feel justified in these practices. Do you notice the trend?

These are the same tactics Satan cunningly used on Eve in the garden which led to the fallen nature we have all inherited. Satan is a champion at looking for what may appear as loopholes to justify anything that will enable him to unleash his destructive agenda. This is why a debate against the devil is a loosing battle. He has been debating for milleniums, so has massive experience. But, when you introduce Jesus to the debate, Satan has to bow to the one who defeated him forever.

The lawless one also alludes to the antichrist. Many today have formed up their own opinions on who they think the antichrist is. These opinions are sometimes unfortunately drawn from a rationalized source, a lie. You see, the devil would never want you to think he is the devil. That would defeat his destructive mission. He never shows up with pitchfork, horn, breathing fire. The Bible says he masquerades as an angel of light.

He presents a form of goodness, but one that denies the power of God. It goes against God but is made to look like of God. The devil is actually a very nice guy.

Unfortunately he has successfully duped many in America and around the world today. This is because he himself wants to be God. This is the very reason he got kicked out of Heaven and is living on borrowed time awaiting eternal judgement.

In the meantime, he is relentlessly seeking to steal, kill and destroy through cunning deception.

Father,
May this writing be used as a tool to awaken some in deep slumber to the enemy's agenda. May your children be awakened to Your truth. May Your Kingdom come, Lord. Amen!
