I'd like to share on a subject "Holy" in my blog post today.
When the bible says God is holy, the good book is simply saying that our God is perfect, flawless, without malice or evil intent. That YAHWEH is pure, without fault, well intentioned. That He always means us well, has no ill will. That He is all of these attributes perpetually, infinitely, eternally, never ending, and never changing. He is powerful!
The prophet Isaiah describes a vision He saw;
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: with two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.’ (Isaiah 6:1-3)
Angels are God’s agents, God's messengers who perpetually inhabit His Heaven. They know God. Lucifer the fallen angel used to be one of them. When the angels worship God, crying out holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, they're giving us on earth a clue as to the character of YAHWEH. They give us a hint for worship.
It is those who have closest access to someone who will truly know their character enough to be able to give a truthful and meaningful opinion. Unless offcourse those who have had inner circle, close access to that person change, are offended, become envious or overly ambitious and seek to depose their master only to find out the master is indomitable, unbeatable and so are reduced to a frustrated, defeated state.
They know who the master is, they know His character, know His power and position, they want it, covet it, but cannot have it so instead make it their life's goal to undermine their former master. This is what happened to Lucifer that fallen angel. We see it a lot among humans too. It has become Satan's 24/7 self apointed job to undermine YAHWEH'S character, and to cause humans to make light of their creator.
When I accepted Jesus 26 years ago, I knew I had found something I desperately needed. I had finally found something or someone to identify with and proudly so. I had found unconditional love, and there was nothing I could do or not do to earn it. This was love based not on what I did, but based on what Jesus did on the cross. I mean it was astronomically too good to be true, and it was and is true.
I still feel the same way towards YAHWEH 26 years later, but only my feelings and convictions have grown stronger. They have been refined through seasons of doubt, pain, hardship, fear, lack, and suffering.
It is easy to think when we suffer in this life that God is ignoring us, punishing us or is in disapproval of us. The truth is, you will never really see God truly until you walk through tough things with Him. The hardships we face in this life, even the ones that seem unreasonable, even pointless or meaningless will expose lies about God, and reveal the truth about our God if we allow it.
When Job faced a very tough season including some seemingly pointless and unreasonable hardships, it was not because he was in disapproval. The man was approved of God, but God's approval as I have personally found is not immunity from hard seasons. In fact, God's approval sets you up for proving. We can only be proven in this flesh life when we face what seems like the opposite of what we have in the spiritual and yet refuse to give up on the truth we know in the spiritual.
It is easy to think that God is the source of your hardships, but far from it. God allows hardships, as in Job's case, but He is not the source, God is holy.
The word holy in the context of the hardships means that God is sovereign over us, and means us well, He wants what's best for us, and so allows pain and hardship because it is in the midst of these things that our senses are awakened to see this world as it is, and to see God as He truly is: as the perpetual, constant, unchanging presence we have and need and will never lose. Hardships are meant to help us detach from the fickle and cling on to the eternal. They're meant to help us leave the temporal and cleave to the eternal.
When you think of it, this is what describes Joseph's words to his brothers; "What you intended for evil, God meant for good." In the context our lives, Satan is the enemy that means us evil, but God uses it for our good. Essentially God uses the devil as a character building agent for Christ followers. The devil seeks to destroy through hardships, pain and suffering, but God seeks to strengthen and prove and promote through hardships.
When God allows hard times in your life as He has in mine. It is not because of disapproval. Surely there are people who suffer the consequences of bad decisions and poor choices. Even then, God is not the source. God allows all things to bring about what is best for us, in us and for His purposes through us. God is holy!
The apostle John also saw a vision of Heaven and gives us a glimpse into how the angels worship YAHWEH.
Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all round, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying: ‘ “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,” who was, and is, and is to come.’ (Revelation 4:8)
Father, Open the eyes of Your children. Allow what needs to be allowed in their lives, so that they may grow to see you as You are; Holy and forever worthy of our worship. Amen!
