Surrender is often looked at as a weakness. In battle, surrender means you are overwhelmed by the enemy and have accepted defeat.
In Christianity, surrender is recognizing your limitations and then yielding to the superior, unlimited power of Jesus Christ. In essence it is accepting the defeat of the flesh and embracing the unlimited conquering power of the Spirit of God. Following Jesus will require surrender. You cannot truly follow Jesus and not be surrendered. The longer you follow Jesus, the more you will be called to surrender. The only way to truly manifest Jesus to the world is by surrender.
Surrender means you give up your rights, your ambitions, your comforts and conveniences and embrace the discomforts, the inconveniences, even the many blessings that accompany following Jesus. Christ Himself said to carry your cross.
Surrender happens in stages. The more you grow, the more you will be required to surrender because at every stage you need the conquering power of Christ to work on your behalf. There will never be a time in this Christian journey when we will not be required to surrender.
Surrender is the default position of the Christ follower. Outside of that, you have religion and programs without the power of God's presence.
